I feel that this is a very important issue for many individuals and even couples. How often it is that we try to get through the hard times alone when we have this amazing loving God who is willing to side with us in a moment’s notice.
Some people already have a relationship with Jesus, and some don’t. Some have tried but found it didn’t work. In this article, I’m not going to discuss the reasons why a relationship with God might not have worked, but rather, that God does want to help you with whatever it is you are experiencing.
Okay, well, I can’t just leave anyone hanging; if you try to have a relationship with God and it doesn’t work, try again. 1. God wants to have a relationship with you
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.”
In these verses, God is showcasing His love for us, even us as sinners. God hates sin, but God loves us. When He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross, it was God’s way of creating a pathway for anyone and everyone to have a relationship with Him. Because Jesus took our sins upon Himself when He was crucified on the cross, He became the atonement for our sins once and for all.
Through Jesus, we can be saved from the eternal separation which will happen on the Day of Judgment when all will be judged by God. This is where we either go to Heaven or Hell. The bible is very clear to tell us that those who don’t accept God’s Son won’t share in the inheritance, or enjoy the Kingdom, which is Heaven.
Sounds harsh to some. However, God’s invitation extends to all who are willing to surrender and believe. God knows that we all sin, that we have sinned before, and that we will sin again. His criteria for a relationship with us and for our Salvation isn’t that we become fully sin-free, but instead, that we believe in His Son.
If we accept the Son, the Father accepts us
Through the vast teachings and the variations of understanding of scripture, and let’s not forget those who focus heavily on rules, many people have been led to believe that God is a big mean God who is full of vengeance and wrath, who only lets those without sin into His Kingdom, and only talks with a certain number of pre-chosen individuals.
Well, we need to be careful not to become religious or legalistic here. God is a God of love and mercy. Because of His grace, He forgives. Because of His grace, He accepts those He chooses to accept, despite our understanding. He wants us to walk closely to His commandments and decrees, but He has grace that many of us will never comprehend.
It is by believing that we are saved. So, this means to read His Word for yourself to become acquainted with His character, seek out His invitations to you, seek out His promises to you, pray often to Him, be obedient to God’s Word and believe what He says to be true. This is how to truly have a relationship with God. There is no chant, no sacrifice, no special day of the year, and no amount of offerings that will strike up a relationship with the Living God; acceptance of His Son and belief in Him are the only way.
2. God already knows your most intimate needs
“O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.”
The bible tells us many times that God knows each and every one of us on a deep and personal level; even those who refuse to walk with Him. In fact, as He created us, He is infinitely wise and knows all we have done and all we will ever do.
So, if this is so, then it would seem that there is no need to pray, as God already knows what we will ask for. However, God desires a relationship with us. Think about what a relationship is: it’s a two-way union. Two people come together, and each contributes something to the relationship.
If we didn’t take any time to read the Word of God, to pray to the Living God, or to walk with Him and talk with Him throughout the day, what kind of relationship would that be? And, if we think about the relationship in this way, can we start to get a sense of why God might not answer some people’s prayers?
If someone entered into a relationship with you, and every day they came over and asked what you would do for them that day, only talked about what they wanted to do, and never once considered what you might want, how long would you want to entertain that relationship? How many things would you want to do for that person? Would you want to give them a gift?
Yes, God is all-knowing. But this doesn’t mean He doesn’t want to have an active relationship with each one of us. It does mean that He understands us, and has already made allowances for our mistakes, shortcomings, and even moments of selfishness. However, He is ready and waiting to help and bless all who seek to enter into a real relationship with Him.
3. God is ready to forgive
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
No matter what it is that we’ve done, there is nothing too great for our Father to forgive us of. It’s the lies of the enemy, the devil, that keep us in condemnation. The bible tells us in Romans 8:1 that there is no condemnation in those who belong to Christ.
When we believe in Jesus and do our best to walk in a way that is a good example and representation of Him, we belong to Him. This means that when God sees us, He sees His Son in us, and that is the righteousness that He sees in us, not our righteousness. He is constantly reminded that His Son paid the price for our sins already, and because of His grace, He is ready and willing to forgive us if we would just ask.
But how many choose to believe the lies of the enemy that say that their sin is too much or that they are too bad and will just sin again anyway? Too many is the answer.
We are wise to learn about God’s grace and love for His children; those who believe in His Son, Jesus. Then, when we sin, we will know that it’s the enemy in us fighting for our soul and that God the Father understands this, and will forgive and heal.
What we should also understand is that after we’ve brought our confession to the Lord, and He has forgiven us as soon as we confessed and asked Him to forgive, that it is done; that He remembers no more as we are told in Isaiah 43:25. And, at this point, to go on sinning no more.
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
When we turn to Jesus and repent of our sins, we are made right with Him. Our old sinful nature passes away and we take on a new nature. This new nature has the Holy Spirit living in it, and when we have the Spirit in us, we lose our desire to sin. Instead, we gain a desire to do what is right before the Lord.
4. God is ready to heal
“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’”
God knows that we are fighting a tough fight in life against the prince of darkness. Satan is constantly warring against us to break us down, to destroy us, and to prevent our Salvation in the Lord. He uses circumstances, other people, and he simply speaks degrading lies as negative thoughts to us as this breaks our spirit.
When we go about our days walking alone, that is, without a refreshing relationship with the Almighty Lord, we are weak, and we are vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks. Think about how much harder your day is when you are running on little sleep; seems like everything is a burden and an attack on us, and that no matter how hard we try to maintain a good attitude and grateful heart, we fall short and eventually come to a breakdown.
God knows that this world is too much for any of us to bear alone. So, He offers His healing hand to anyone willing to reach out and accept it; to anyone willing to go to Him and ask for His help.
When we give our burdens to the Lord, that is, come to Him in prayer and tell Him of what is troubling us, He is faithful to renew our spirit and energy. If we are willing to leave our troubles with Him to deal with, that is, to trust Him to solve our great problems, He will even give us good sleep at night; even in the midst of disaster. That comes from having God’s peace beyond understanding.
Go ahead and call out to the Lord and ask Him to take your problems off your shoulders and give you rest in your mind and soul. Take a break!
5. God loves to bless us
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”
This is a beautiful explanation of God’s faithfulness to provide for His children who walk with Him. If we are trusting that God is the only Living God and that by His grace we are saved through His Son, we can be sure that we are right with Him.The scripture says that “blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.” Click To Tweet
This scripture is telling us that God provides for those who are right with Him and trust in Him, even when everyone else is falling apart. It is telling us that no matter how bad our economy gets, no matter how bad the news is, that for His children, He will provide for their needs and even allow them to be fruitful.
For many of us, we are run by the media. The fear-mongers of society work to steer us in all sorts of directions away from our loving God and His peace. This is the great work of Satan. He will surely destroy anything and everything. But for those who look to the Lord for refuge, for that person will be protection and provision.
The scripture says that “blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.”
We bring our problems to God, we trust Him with our finances, that is, to stretch and grow our income and to give us the wisdom to avoid debt, we trust Him with our family, and we trust Him to provide us with a future that He desires for our life.
The Bible shares numerous stories of God’s blessings for His followers, and there are countless testimonies from individuals all over the world who have experienced supernatural blessings and healing from the Lord.
But we must first believe and trust Him.
I have had many ups and downs as a Christian over the last twenty-plus years. I have been blessed by God and I have also been left to dwell in my selfishness. I have learned that God wants to bless us and help us with our problems and struggles, but first He wants us to have the right heart for Him.
If you have struggles in your life that seem too much to carry, give them to God. God is ready to meet you right where you’re at, with whatever you’re carrying. It’s often our pride or disbelief that keeps us away from God’s blessings. Search the Word of God for yourself and go to Him in prayer and seek direction and deliverance directly from Him. He is faithful to answer if you are willing to surrender.
