There Is A Battle; Jesus Versus Satan

a woman sitting on a bench reading her bible while a reflection in the water shows two angelic spirits fighting around her. Jesus and Satan are in a battle for our souls.

We are living in a spiritual world where there is a battle for our souls. This battle is between good and evil and it goes on all around us and especially, in our minds. We are constantly getting thoughts of good and thoughts of bad. But it is us who choose which thoughts we listen to and which ones we ignore.

The thoughts we listen to are the ones that will manifest themselves in good or bad consequences. We can’t escape this cause and effect, reaping and sowing design. So, instead, we must learn which choices and which thoughts will yield the best results and avoid others.

We do this through study and we also do this through experience. The bible is the experience of many who have struggled with good and bad since the beginning. It is full of examples of what went right for people and what went wrong, according to their choices. For those who choose to study the bible, they will learn of this spiritual battle and they will learn how to defend themselves.

The bible teaches that Jesus is mightier than Satan and that through Jesus, we too are mightier than Satan. But for those who don’t bother to read and learn, what chance do they have?

Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”

The more that we read the Scripture, God’s Word, the more we start to understand the truth. It is with Scripture that lies are exposed. It is with Scripture that we are set free. The bible talks about the character of Jesus, as well as the character of Satan. As we learn more Scripture, we can see how deceptive and hateful Satan is and how loving Jesus is.

In this article, I want to share a little dialogue between Satan and Jesus to help expose the lies of the enemy and the truths of the Gospel. Although this is just a fictional conversation made up by me, there is a frightening truth to it for those who fall prey to the enemy.

A conversation between Jesus and Satan

Satan: “I see you’re here to try to stop me from going around and visiting my people. You want to cause people to believe that you are better than me and that your way is better than mine?

Jesus: “I am here to share the truth and to expose the lies you tell the people. What you are failing to understand is that the “People” belong to the Father.”

Satan: “Oh, but I beg to differ. I think that the people are choosing to follow me; this makes them mine to do as I wish.”

Jesus: “I suppose that as long as you convince them to follow you that you do have the power to do as you wish in their lives. It’s just too bad that the people only follow you because you lied to them.”

Satan: “Oh, come on now; they aren’t all lies. Besides, they like what I offer.”

Jesus: “And, what is that?”

Satan: “All that they want. I can give them riches and luxury and enjoyment and power. Through me, they can attain greatness here on earth. Not only that; if they follow me, I can show them the future, I can give them power over other people, I can give them freedom to be who they want, and they can literally be as great as a god.”

Jesus: “Hmm. Interesting that you would say that. Isn’t that the same thinking exactly that got you cast out of Heaven? Aren’t you facing an eternity in the pit of Hell for wanting to be like God?”

“Also, how is it that you have convinced people that the universe is God? The universe was created by God and His Spirit is all throughout the universe, but the universe isn’t God.”

“However, you have caused people to believe that they have the power to control their destinies and “their” universe. That in this universe, they can manifest anything they want through Law of Attraction practices; that through positive thinking and intense focus, they can manipulate their level of vibration to match that of the thing they want, thereby, attracting it to themselves. Even if this were possible, it wouldn’t be of God’s Spirit. You have effectively caused many people to believe that they are their own god and that their journey is whatever they make it to be.”

“People who live like this won’t make it into the Kingdom of God. Yet, you don’t tell them this. You have them so confused. They will get to the top of the ladder only to realize they are leaning against the wrong wall. This is why the Scripture in Proverbs 14:12 says; ‘There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.’

Satan: “The people can make their choices. We are given free will to choose and believe what we want. Besides, the people need things right now. Why would a loving God make them wait; even when the people cry out for help. Well, I myself can’t just sit by and do nothing. I will go and help them and give them what they want.”

Jesus: “Oh, you’re so noble. Yeah, you might go to them and give them power and money and popularity, but you never give the whole package. You always leave out the bit that it comes with a price; that there are strings attached. These strings, these are the same ones that will bind you in the eternal fire.”

Satan: “Why bother them with details? I mean, people want what they want, and they want it now, right?”

Jesus: “Yes, it’s true. People everywhere struggle with patience and they often try to figure things out for themselves. If only they would just have a bit of faith and patience, they would see that the Father is working it all out for them. If only they wouldn’t get ahead of God and try to figure it out themselves. By doing this, they not only prevent God from fulfilling His Plan, they also end up in negative consequence.”

Satan: “Yes, isn’t it great?”

Jesus: “How terrible do you have to be to offer people things that come with eternal destruction and pain? How evil are you that you can promise someone something to bring them temporary joy only to immediately follow up with making them feel bad for taking your bait?”

Satan: “Oh, how boring time would be if we only did what you want to do.”

Jesus: “Have you forgotten how short this time on earth is? Have you forgotten that time on earth compared to eternity is miniscule? If the people would only see, that if, for a short period of time, they could deny themselves the “pleasures” of their sinful nature, the kind of pleasures that you offer, that God has True Pleasures and Riches set aside for them in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Satan: “Yes, I suppose they would be quite impressed with the Treasures God has set aside for them. But again, who knows when that will be. Why, this world is difficult, and the days are a struggle for everyone. Surely, they can be happier now if they just go out and do what feels good and what pleases them. Besides, God is a God of love; I’m sure He will accept them on this ‘so-called-Judgment-Day.’”

Jesus: “Of course, that’s what you would tell them. You wouldn’t even hesitate to make them question God and His Wrath. You would have people all over the world think that God is a God of love only and not of justice and of discipline. In fact, you have caused people to say out loud that there is no such thing as God or Jesus or Satan or Heaven or Hell.”

Satan: “Yeah, and you know what? Those are my faithful followers. I don’t even have to keep an eye on them anymore. They just go around and do my work for me.”

Jesus: “Somehow you have convinced them that it’s all a bunch of hogwash and because of this, they are already condemned with you to eternal Hell. This is why you don’t go after them. This is why they never experience your attacks like the rest of the people do. They are of zero threat to your kingdom.”

Satan: “Yes, aren’t I good at what I do? Unlike you, I don’t have to keep asking my followers to do as I want. They do it on their own.”

Jesus: “That’s only because you have filled them with so many lies about who they are as a person and have beat them down in spirit to the point where they have simply given up. For them, they believe that the only thing that can make them feel better now is drugs and alcohol and sex and over-spending and over-eating. And then what do you do? You make a follow-up call and remind them of how bad they are and how much further they’ve just separated themselves from God.”

Jesus continued, “Well guess what? I’m going out in full force now. I’m sending people all over the world to speak the truth against you. I am personally going around knocking on everyone’s doors at every moment to let them know that no matter how much wrong they have done, or what lies of yours they have believed, that they are invited and welcome to the Kingdom of God.”

“I’m also personally healing them from their past hurts; hurts that were caused by people confused by your ways. I am telling them that they are forgiven and that they have power to kick you out of their lives permanently. Also, I am giving them the Holy Spirit to live within them, to constantly speak to them the truth of God. By doing this, they will only become wise to your craftiness and deception.”

“Finally, I am giving them the full Armor of God. This armor is the exact armor that will stop all of your attacks against them and this armor will give them the power they need to make it through every day leading up to the Day of Judgment. By using this armor, and by walking in the Spirit of God, they will be able to live a life of freedom from you and they will have victory over the death that you offer. You are done, man!”

Satan: “Why must you mess with me? Isn’t it bad enough that I face eternity in Hell? Can’t I have some fun here on earth while I can?”

Jesus: “Your punishment will be severe. It will be eternal torment. There will never be any relief. If I were you, I’d just hide myself away and stop digging a deeper hole with God. You have an army of fallen angels, and those who have already followed you into their grave. I would find a cave somewhere deep in a mountain and not bring any more attention to myself if I were in your shoes.”

Satan: “Well, I doubt that God could make it any worse for me than it already is. And what do I care; I have many slaves, and when I’m finished, my slaves will be too numerous to count. I’m already in the schools, in the justice system, in the government, and even in many of the churches. So, as long as I am free to prowl around, I am going to devour this world and all that is in it. Anyway, I got places to be and people to see. I’ll be watching for you.”

Jesus: “I’ll already be there!”

Conclusion

If such a casual conversation could be recorded, we would see how bad Satan truly is. We must study the Word of God. We must learn about the power that we have when we follow Jesus. If we can learn to deny ourselves certain pleasures now, immoral pleasures and pleasures of the flesh, God has so much in store for each of us. None of us have to perish with the devil.

Jeremiah 29:11
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the LORD. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’”

God has a plan for each of us. But we need to be faithful to Him alone. This means that we must give up the things that keep us in sin; anything that doesn’t please God.

Romans 12:2
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

As we submit to God, He will cause a change in our character. He will impart His knowledge and wisdom on us, and He will give us a discerning spirit; one that can spot the schemes of the devil and his workers. All we have to do is choose Jesus and turn away from our old way of living. But according to the bible, eternity in Heaven will be worth it.

  1. What a conversation. If only we could remind ourselves that this warfare between God and Satan is very real, especially when times get tough. Love the promise at the end, and the realities of the life we are currently living, while Satan tries to keep as many as He can from God’s promises.
