When we think of life, most of us don’t wake up and look at the day ahead as a battle. Instead, we get up, make our coffee and breakfast, get dressed, and head off to work, or wherever we go for the day. And for many, this is about as much thought as will go into their day.

So, why do I consider the day to be a battlefield?
As a Christian, I know that life is a battlefield. The war is between good and evil; both are fighting for our souls. Most people won’t see it like this, but regardless of awareness, this battle goes on.
Many of us go to work and aim for promotion and raises, we get into relationships and hope for a long happy life together, and we might even have children. As we go about these things, they bring their own challenges in life. Many people will see this as the battlefield of life.
I encourage you to stick with me here as I will unpack this topic a bit further.
God Vs Satan
Most of us have heard of God and Satan, Heaven and Hell. And, most of us will say that we are headed for Heaven when our time on earth is up. Well, this is the hope, and a noble one. However, we must be willing to explore this on a much deeper level so that we can be sure we are in a position where we will surely go to Heaven.
We see this life’s purpose as growing up and starting a family and entering into a great career and building up a large nest egg to hopefully pass on to our children. This is the wise thing to do for many. However, it’s just part of our life. The bible talks about eternity in Heaven or Hell, and that our time on earth is only mere moments of time.
God has a day of Judgment coming where Jesus will come back, and we will all be accountable for our lives;
“For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.”
It is at this time where many who thought they were good and did well will find out that being good and doing well isn’t what’s required to get into Heaven; a relationship with Christ is the only way (John 14:6). There is no middle ground; it’s either Heaven or Hell. If we are wrong and don’t make it into Heaven, we will be headed for Hell with Satan.
I’m not saying that we are all doomed to Hell. Instead, I am saying that this is a battle, and we must pick a side. We must understand that there is a great deception going on. Satan is a Master at deception. He is working tirelessly to break us down and separate us from God. By doing this, he is effectively preventing us from realizing an eternity in Heaven.
Satan, the deceiver
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and to kill and to destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
Satan has one goal; to take as many people to Hell with him as possible. Jesus has one goal; to take as many people to Heaven with Him as possible. This is the battle of life, folks. It has been since the beginning of time.
Let’s consider a few ways that Satan is deceiving us:
1. In our thoughts, primarily
Satan works to break our spirit by filling our minds with negative thoughts of doubt and fear. This is what drives most of the world. Think about your own day; do you have negative thoughts? Do they seem to come out of nowhere?
Satan reminds us of past mistakes or upsetting issues, because when we focus on these things, we become angry or frustrated or depressed or bitter. When we are in this state, we have zero focus on the promises of God, or even living as an example for Christ. In this state, we are useless to the Kingdom of God.
As we ponder such issues for too long, we start to beat ourselves up; we start to condemn ourselves. It is in this time where we must know the promises of Jesus and use them to strengthen ourselves and come out victorious against Satan.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Christian or not, Satan is attacking us. Just like a lion, he goes after the weak; especially, those who aren’t in Jesus. Be on guard and arm yourself with knowledge of the bible, as this is our greatest defense against the attacks of the enemy.
2. Through other people’s actions and teachings
Many of us are influenced by someone in life. We get inspired by someone, and when they speak, we cling to their words. But who are we listening to?
Satan uses all sorts of people and situations to tempt us or to put pressure on us. If we are weak, not living victoriously through Christ, we will give in to these temptations or be controlled by our emotions caused by negative situations.
“Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.”
In our times of vulnerability, we tend to listen to those who speak in an authoritative tone. The person may in fact, be leading us further away from a life with Jesus. Since we aren’t studying the Word of God each day, or walking by the Spirit, we don’t see the danger. And, this is where Satan gets us.
We can pray for a discerning Spirit and by doing this, God will make known to us who we can trust and who we should avoid teachings from.
3. Through our belief
Perhaps, I should’ve said through our disbelief. This is Satan’s best: to make us believe that God doesn’t exist, or that we aren’t good enough to go to Heaven.
We hear of certain people who are against God, or even those who refer to themselves as Atheists. As they don’t believe in a Heaven or Hell, they are of absolutely no threat to Satan. Because of their disbelief, they automatically default to eternity in Hell.
The rules for Salvation are very simple; believe in Jesus.
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
However, only those who do this will see Heaven. So, by ignoring Jesus completely or claiming that He doesn’t exist only further separates those from God and eternity in Heaven. Thus, Satan becomes victorious in their lives, even when they don’t believe.
Another strong attack of the enemy is to make us believe that our sins are too great; that God can’t forgive. We are not wise enough to know exactly what sins God will forgive us for or not. But the bible tells us that God is a God of Grace and Mercy; that He forgives and forgets.
“I – yes, I alone – will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.”
If we surrender to Christ and repent of our sins, He will forgive us and remember no more. However, if we choose not to, we will be held accountable for all we have done on the Day of Judgment. This is a tactic of the enemy; to make us busy...This is why we are wise to learn to say no. 4. He makes us busy
I have personally heard people say that they’re too busy to read the bible in the mornings or throughout the day; that their schedule is just too full to have the time – that when they finally have the time, they are simply too tired and fall asleep.
This is a tactic of the enemy; to make us busy. There will never be a shortage of people asking for us to do this or that for them. As long as we make ourselves available, they will keep asking. This is why we are wise to learn to say no.
We must figure out what is vitally important of our extremely limited time each day and commit only to those things. For everything else that doesn’t make the list, we must learn to say no to those.
We have free will to follow God and we have free will to choose what we will or won’t do each day. We must understand that our actions have consequences, both good and bad. If we make a wise choice, we receive a good result.
The whole book of Proverbs speaks directly to our actions. It contrasts between the wise and the foolish. If we aren’t sure of whether we are about to do good or bad, we can spend some time in prayer as well as reading through the book of Proverbs.
Here is a go-to scripture and one to memorize and utilize regularly when we aren’t sure and could use some direction:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.”
5. He gives us riches of the world
Some, maybe many, will say, “Well, how is this a bad thing?”
It doesn’t have to be. However, Satan can see when we are weak. He can also see where our true heart is. If our whole attention and hope is in riches, he can separate us from Christ by filling our life with meaningless materialistic items and money.
The common understanding is that we become dependent on our money instead of God. We start to believe that we have security in great financial wealth; that we can buy our protection. What we really get is too much pride, as well as, worship of the wrong god.
“I’ll say it again – it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God.”
This is because their faith and trust is in their money which is perishing; not in the Living God.
Many take this to say that Christians can’t or shouldn’t have great wealth. Well, David and Solomon had great wealth.
“Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.”
If you are devoted to a life of service to God, He will provide you with all you need to do His work. When we are walking in the Will of God for our lives, He opens doors of opportunity and blessing. If it is God’s desire that we gain wealth, He will give us more than we need, or could expect.
If we constantly limit God and believe that God can’t or won’t give us wealth, then our faith is small, and we are cutting ourselves off from the blessings and gifts of God. We must learn of God’s promises to us.
The whole armor of God
I have discussed the fight between good and evil in our lives. I have explained that we do have a choice of who is victorious in our life. I have laid it down thick and have not held back because this is a serious topic. Sadly, many churches around the globe are conforming to the ways of the world and don’t want to hurt any feelings or scare away potential new believers.
However, we need to all be aware that we are given a choice in life to choose God or Satan, and that these choices will ultimately affect our eternal outcome in life.
If we don’t know that a stove is hot, then we won’t know that we mustn’t touch it, right? Likewise, if we don’t understand that Hell is imminent, and that it’s a terrible place, we won’t fear going there.
What does the bible say about Hell?
“And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
This is not a good scenario, but it’s a permanent one for those who end up there. Try to think for a moment to really understand or fathom exactly how long eternity is or what it would feel like.
Fortunately, when we learn about Heaven and Hell and God and Satan, we become armed with the knowledge that is necessary for us to choose where we go for eternity. And when we choose Christ, we can instantly become victorious over this life and especially, Satan.
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
This means that Jesus is the Victor in this battle in our lives. We become the Victor as well when we invite Jesus into our life and walk in His Spirit.
He also equips us with the necessary armour to remain victorious against the attacks of the enemy.
Take some time to read through Ephesians 6:10-17. In these verses, we are told about the spiritual battle for our souls and we are armed with the protection of the Lord. We must memorize these verses and understand what this armour is and we must also be willing to put it on each day. By doing this, we can keep upright and get through this life in one piece.
When we think of being victorious in life, many of us think of it as a metaphor for being successful and reaching the pinnacle of wealth and health. However, it is much more than that. When we come to realize that there is a spiritual war for our souls that is happening in the spiritual realms, then being victorious in life takes on new meaning.
Take time to really think about what is said in this article, as your life depends on it. The Day of Judgment can either be a massive blessing for us or the ultimate nightmare. Learn what it means to be right with God and to store up treasures in Heaven. Learn what it means to walk with Jesus and to be a light in this dark world.
Don’t know Jesus?
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, and whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
If you don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, understand that you can right now. It doesn’t cost anything, nor is it only available to certain people. He is ready and willing to be a part of your life right now, regardless of your past. All you have to do is ask Him to be part of your life.
A Prayer for Salvation
Dear Jesus, I am a sinner. Please forgive me for my sins. I know that apart from you, I don’t have life. I know that you are Life, and that you have a purpose for my life. I ask you now to come into my life, to save me, to guide me, and to direct me. Please do your Will through me, Amen.
By praying this prayer and believing that Jesus is Lord and that he is part of your life, you are saved. At this point, it is best to find Christian support (a local church) and let them know that you are a new believer. Fellowship with other believers is critical for new believers. Spending time daily, reading the bible, God’s Word, will start giving you the necessary knowledge to move forward in your journey for Christ.
